Processing bat recordings
If you have successfully recorded Bats on your device, then the recordings will usually be stored as full spectrum files in the .WAV format.
It is usually the case that there are several steps in processing of bat recordings, sometimes in the same tool, but often across a variety of tools used in sequence. This stepped process is often called a “workflow”.
Possible steps in a bat recording workflow could include:
- Preview – A quick review, including a look your bat recordings spectrograms and possibly playback of sounds.
- Transfer – Transfer your bat recordings to another device ready for further processing.
- ID – Use an automated Bat ID process and manual inspection to have a “best guess” at what species of bat you have recorded.
- Detailed Review – Using manual inspection to confirm (or not) suggested automated ID.
- Report – Produce a summary of the recordings.
- Share – Your recordings with others, and citizen science platforms.
